Fourth worker dies after Wisconsin mill explosion

CAMBRIA, Wis. — A fourth worker died of his injuries Tuesday after an explosion destroyed a corn mill in southern Wisconsin last week, the company said. Angel Reyes, 46, died at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, Didion Milling said in a statement. Reyes was a pack operator at the plant and died from injuries he suffered in the explosion, the company said.

The blast and fire May 31 destroyed the corn milling plant in Cambria, a community about 45 miles northeast of Madison. The bodies of three other workers were recovered from the rubble. About a dozen of the 16 employees working the overnight shift were hurt. At least four remained hospitalized Tuesday.

Violinist: United wouldn’t let her board with instrument

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A classical musician has accused a United Airlines supervisor of barring her from boarding a plane with her centuries-old violin, sparking a scuffle that caused her to miss her flight and left her worried her hands — and by extension, her livelihood — may have been harmed.

Yennifer Correia’s attorney said Tuesday a lawsuit against Chicago-based United is likely on the 33-year-old Memphis woman’s behalf after the Sunday confrontation in Houston as she was preparing to fly to Missouri for a symphony rehearsal. Correia had a discount fare that, according to rules posted on United’s website, doesn’t let passengers stow luggage in the overhead bin, although an exception is allowed for “small” musical instruments. United has refunded Correia’s airfare and has “reached out to Ms. Correia to gain a better understanding of what occurred and to offer assistance,” spokesman Charles Hobart said.

Amazon discount for those on government benefits

NEW YORK — Amazon is making a play for low-income shoppers. The online leader is offering a discount on its pay-by-month Prime membership for people who receive government assistance. The move, announced Tuesday, is seen by some analysts as an attempt to go after rival Walmart’s lower-income shoppers. People who have a valid Electronic Benefits Transfer card, used for programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs, or food stamps, will pay $5.99 per month for the Amazon Prime benefits like free shipping and unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows.

The typical Prime membership is $99 a year, but those who cannot afford to pay up front also have a $10.99-a-month option. EU fines for not reining in the restrictive practices earlier. The ports handle 86 percent of Spain’s imports and 60 percent of its exports. The strike is expected to have a noticeable impact on the economy. The main national union said that most of the 6,150 dockworkers had stopped working Monday as planned, every other hour. Strikes are also scheduled for Wednesday and Friday this week.
