Prince of Peace UMC youth traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, July 17-22.
Nashville, fondly called “Music City,” is known as a dream destination for many aspiring musicians and entertainers hoping to make it big in the business. As the second largest city in Tennessee, and also home to icons such as the Grand Ole Opry, this is a place where traditional southern country simplicity meets urban culture.
But in the shadow of fame and the stage’s bright lights, this city struggles with problems of poverty, homelessness and racial tensions. In a community where many hope their dreams will come true, others have a hard time making ends meet.
During the weeklong Prince of Peace Youth Mission, the congregation’s young people and youth leaders partnered with local organizations to meet ongoing needs in the community by serving at a food shelf, clothing distribution center, soup kitchen, children’s program and elderly care facilities.
Participants from the 2016 Youth Mission Team will share their life-changing experiences from Nashville Sunday, Aug. 14, during the regular 9:30 a.m. worship service. Team members will speak about what they saw, heard and how they felt the presence of God during their mission trip.
Prince of Peace is at the corner of Arlington Heights Road and Devon Avenue in Elk Grove Village. Prince of Peace welcomes all into full participation in the congregation, regardless of age, ability, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, faith background, family configuration or socioeconomic status.
