The Special Kids Network, based in Deerfield, continues its 17-year tradition of fundraising events to contribute to charitable organizations that help kids with special needs.
This year’s funds will support Keshet, which serves children and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities; and Special Olympics Illinois, which gives more than 22,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in Illinois the opportunity to compete in 19 different sports throughout the year at no cost to them or their families.
Gibson’s Bar & Steakhouse will sponsor the celebrity/sponsor dinner, one of the highlights of SKN’s primary fundraising event, its 17th Annual Celebrity Golf Outing and 12th Annual Women’s Tennis Tournament, scheduled for Monday, June 20, at Twin Orchard Country Club in Long Grove.
As in years’ past, the event will feature many current and former Chicago sports celebrities and media personalities who will be participating in this daylong event.
“The Special Kids Network created the annual celebrity golf outing and women’s tennis tournament to develop resources that enable SKN to execute its mission. Since 1999, the event has proved successful, raising more than $4 million. Last year’s sold out event had continued that tradition. The addition of Special Olympics Illinois will help reach a broader audience who share our commitment to helping kids with special needs,” said Trevor Brody, who chairs the Special Kids Network.
Brody notes that one of the strengths of the event are the local companies like Gibson’s Bar & Steakhouse, that donate products and/or services that can be used to support the foundation’s auction success during this event. Through the years, supporters have made tax-deductible monetary donations or in-kind donations, such as gift certificates or dining experiences, autographed memorabilia, tickets to local sporting games or other unique opportunities.
“There are so many kids that need our help, so we are grateful for the support that we receive from our community, sponsors, celebrities and supporters,” Brody said.
