Parent of DeVry changing name

DOWNERS GROVE — The company that owns one of the nation’s largest for-profit college chains is changing its name. DeVry Education Group, which owns DeVry University, announced Wednesday that it will now be called Adtalem Global Education. Company CEO Lisa Wardell said the new name “makes clear our purpose to empower students and our status as a global education provider.” The company says Adtalem comes from a Latin translation of the phrase “to empower.”

Fed officials back reducing holdings

WASHINGTON — Federal Reserve officials signaled in discussions early this month that they would likely start reducing the Fed's huge portfolio of bond holdings later this year, a step that could cause borrowing rates to rise. At the same time, the Fed appears to be on track to resume raising its key short-term interest rate when it next meets in mid-June.

TSA to heighten screenings

U.S. airline travelers will face more intense scrutiny of electronics larger than mobile phones at about a dozen domestic airports while the government also considers banning such devices on U.S.-bound flights from Europe. Passengers will be asked to send large electronics including tablets through X-ray screening separately from their carry-on bags, the Transportation Security Administration said Wednesday in an emailed statement. The stepped up screening may be extended nationwide, the agency said. The announcement comes as the government considers various measures to protect against what it suspects are growing capability by terrorist groups to hide explosives in smaller devices.
