Barrington’s White House will present its second season of arts, lectures, music and cultural enhancement for the community.

“We think we’ve put together an impressive lineup for our fall season,” said Rollin Potter, co-chairman of Cultural Programming. “We have internationally renowned performers playing right here in Barrington — events and performances you would normally have to travel downtown to Chicago to see.”

Formally opened on July 4, 2015, the $6.8 million renovation of the 118-year-old home at 145 W. Main St. was fully funded from private donations. The meticulously restored 1898 mansion hosts cultural and community events, and is also available for rental for weddings, corporate meetings, nonprofit fundraisers and family celebrations. It also serves as home for three nonprofit organizations.

Barrington’s White House begins the season at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, with the American String Quartet performing “Lyric in a Time of War.” Appearing on the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the quartet will perform poignant works to mark the anniversary, honor fallen veterans and pay tribute to all who are serving our country in the military.

The White House tribute will follow a village-sponsored 10 a.m. ceremony at Memorial Park to mark the 15th anniversary of our nation’s worst terrorist attacks.

Described by The New York Times as offering “luxurious, beautifully sculpted performances,” this internationally acclaimed quartet was formed in 1974 when its original members were studying at the Julliard School of Music. It continues to serve as quartet-in-residence at the Manhattan School of Music (1984-present) and the Aspen Music Festival (1974-present).

The Barrington White House musical performance will include carefully chosen works, interspersed with readings by poet Tom Sleigh, whose writings cover dozens of wars.

Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for students (with ID) and are available at BarringtonsWhiteHouse.com.

Other Barrington White House events include:

• Bass-baritone Richard Ollarsaba at 3 p.m. Oct. 9 for a vocal recital. The center offers gifted performers advanced instruction and opportunities to perform on the Lyric stage. Ollarsaba will be joined by pianist David Gimmel. Admission is $20, $10 for students (with ID).

Programs are coordinated by the Barrington Cultural Commission.

“We continue to be thankful for our loyal sponsors who have helped bring such an impressive array of talent to Barrington,” Potter said.
