“The Living Light,” a dramatic Christmas musical, will be performed at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at Fourth Street United Methodist Church, 551 S. Fourth St. in Aurora. A freewill offering will be taken.
Sue Gilla of Aurora, musical director and church music coordinator, said a cast of about 30 actors in biblical-period costumes will present the Christmas story as seen by witnesses to the first Christmas in Bethlehem.
The musical, by Ruth Elaine Schram, features seven songs and 10 main characters.
In brief monologues based on scripture and historical accounts, characters ranging from Mary and Joseph to the innkeeper’s family each offer personal perspectives on the first noel.
Gilla said, “The Bible tells us that there were a wide range of reactions to Christ’s coming. This production explores various perspectives on the events.”
Cast members are:
• Aurora: Annie Lynne Cheek, 8 months, baby Jesus; Alex Martin, innkeeper; Sam Martin, Roman soldier; Allison Carter, Bethlehem citizen; and Bill Martin, wise man.
• Chicago: Josie Taylor, angel
• Earlville: Julia Miller, innkeeper’s wife; Bailey Miller, shepherd’s daughter; and Danica Miller, angel
